#071 Aria
Username: pyrozblast
Character Name: Aria
Stage Name: The Strength
Age: 17
Experiment Number: #071
Faction (and Expertise): Aria is a Gambit performer. She excels in mastering weaponry, but mostly with a katana that was given to her as a gift from a fan. She wields the katana in her right hand and sharpens the blade to its extreme so that she can cut through some of the most toughest things in the world.
Mutation: Aria has a mutation named the Promethean Virus (aka The Promethean Mutation). The Promethean Virus was, and still is, a very deadly mutation when it was first experimented on people, thus killing all previous holders having the mutation. A successful version was found when the mutation was injected into a young child at the age of three, that child being Aria… she successful bonded with the virus but at the cost of her right arm being horribly disfigured and giving her super strength in just that arm.
Due to the virus being bonded to Aria’s cellular level, it is always mutating and growing. Right now, Aria is in the third stage of the virus’ mutation. If she were to progress to stage five, her body would overload from the virus and thus it would kill Aria and make her body toxic to everything around her.
Dorm Number: #39
Personality: Aria is very anti-social and keeps to herself all the time. Her mind is also extremely unstable due to the experiments performed on her. It is best to stay away from her when she is practicing her part of the show. She also keeps her part of the show secret until a few hours before she goes on.
Aria is also very mysterious at times. When one of the performers gets hurt, she quietly goes and gets the first aid kit to help that person out. She will not speak to the person she is tending to or even speak to the person after she is done tending to the wound. Even though she does not trust her fellow performers, she tries her best to keep them alive for the day that they all might get out of there.
All Aria knows is the cold feeling of of the world and being isolated from people. Nobody knows why she has the trust issues. Some believe it has something to do with her parents abandoning her at such a young age or that she might have had a mental breakdown during the time she was locked up inside of a steel cage.
Background: In Aria’s early life, she was abandoned on the streets by not just her father and mother but by her whole family. She lived out on the streets for only a few months until scientists came and snatched her from there. Over the course of years, she was injected with many vials of a deadly virus, Promethean. Soon, there was success when the virus bonded with Aria’s cellular level, but not being able to bond onto her DNA. Aria was then locked into a two inch thick steel holding cell so that she could be watched and see if there was any signs of the virus mutating with it host. It did.
When Aria was let out of the steel holding cell, two months had passed for her and during that time she had grown her hair the way that is is now. As soon as she was let out, she was expected to go through all kinds of trials to test out the mutation from the virus. She passed most of the ones that had to do with brute strength but barely passed the brain teasers, then again at this time she was only five. She still had many years ahead of her in this lab, just before coming to the circus she works at now.
Trivia:
* Aria has a hole in her side where a vial of nanobots travel in to regulate her mutation so that she does not die from it getting out of hand. Those nanobots must be changed out once a week for fresh ones.
* Aria likes to be by herself while training, eating meals, or performing.
* She likes to eat chocolate in her free time.
* She was alone from the age of three and never got the praise from her parents. The only praise she got was from the scientists that did experiments on her. After being released and coming to the circus, she was only praised by the scientists that worked on her after training or performing.
* “Practice and performing. Worthy of praise that I am not. Praise does not snuff out the cold feeling of the world at my back. So why must I trust you?” This is the motto that Aria lives by and one that she created herself.

#080 Undine
Username: Kirakishou
Character Name: Undine
Stage Name: N/A
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Experiment Number: #080
Faction (and Expertise): This young girl is a gambit, specializing in pain endurance. Seeing as she was raised to understand pain meant affection, she has grown to be quite the masochist and enjoys what she does if it means people love her. In her performances, she keeps her mutation a secret. The only times she may reveal her mutation is if she partakes in another's freak show or water taming act. Unlike most of the other children, Undine doesn't want to leave the circus and feels she has been accepted where in the real world she would not.
Mutation: Though Undine hides the uglier part of herself quite well, she cannot escape the fact she was experimented on to resemble and function like a mermaid. Under the locks of her bright pink hair she hides small gills upon her neck and a blind left eye (though that had nothing to do with the scientists). Under her medical mask is a mistake of the experiment, torn and twisted lips with sharp horrifying teeth. You can see how she is a little self-conscious. Hidden under gloves and long socks are vibrant green scales, not to mention her webbed feet. Due to constant conditioning of having a tail, she sometimes stumbles and forgets how to walk--this creates the image that she is a bit clumsy. A dip in water is always a refreshing end to her day and she’s capable of holding her breath longer than any normal human could. Sometimes, she finds air hard to breathe.
Dorm Number: #36
Appearance: With rose tousled hair, magenta empty eyes, and milky pale complexion, Undine even resembles the mythical creature she was created to be. She is average in height at 5’4 and well filled out compared to her days of starvation. To distract people from her mysterious mask, she tends to wear flashy and brightly colored clothes (though this fits her personality as well). She likes to disguise her scales with black gloves and socks, seeing as any other color lets through the odd shade of green. Often does she fashion her long hair in subtle pigtails, adorned with ribbons and accessories. She quite enjoys a girly (but strange) look and upholds the image fairly well.
Personality: A lot could be said about the young girl before the experiments. Really had a mind of her own, a lot of opinions and always had something to say; something to prove. She resisted indefinitely and never failed to annoy the hell out of most the scientists. As experimentation was going well one day, she decided to nearly gnaw off one of the scientists hands. And that was the turning point, no one quite knows what happened to her after that. From that day forward, she never cried, she never got angry, she believed everything anyone told her. She was always just dandy. There was a rumor that the frontal lobe of her brain was tweaked, but that remains just a rumor.
Everything is lovely in her eyes. She is most certainly the sweetest thing you’d ever meet, despite the fact she absolutely has no reference of what other peoples emotions are. Whatever makes her feel happy, she’ll do. Whatever she thinks will make you feel happy, she’ll do. There is the fact that she is slightly self-conscious about her looks and if she goes without affection or attention for too long she gets a little crabby. Other than that, almost nothing is capable of making her sour. She’s very bubbly, a little air-headed and her giggle is known to resonate throughout the entirety of her performances. Her voice is said to be a perfect match to her personality, high pitched, girly, and slightly annoying. No matter who, she seems to easily attach to people and seek their fondness. Be it noted, she will stop at nothing to receive admiration, and make the other feel equally as admired.
Background: Undine grew up in a home where meals were rare, bruises were frequent, cuts were common, and pure darkness for hours on end was considered relaxation. For seven years she endured this, she was “home schooled” and it never occurred to anyone outside the family what was happening to this little girl. When she was left alone she’d read her books and teach herself, hoping that might make her parents happy. It didn’t, of course. Luckily one day the police were called to inspect after a report of loud screaming. The parents were sentenced to jail for child abuse, and (unluckily) little Undine was sent to her more well off uncle’s home. But he had no need for her either. As he neared putting her up for adoption, the chance came around to actually benefit from her and he sold her into science for a pretty penny.
Once in the hands of the scientists, her whole understanding became twisted after the better part of her mind was lost. She was taught that the pain her parents had brought to her was out of love, they really did care for her. Much like the scientists did, the syringes and prods and pokes were because they did love her so much for being a good girl. They even gave her a name, Undine, because her old name was too boring. This fit her much more anyways, seeing as she practically had the tail of a mermaid. Though she herself wasn’t very fond of the way it sounded, she could never come up with a better name.
Relationships:
* Ivan: A young man she so fondly refers to as Ivey. Being one of the few others that have an aquatic related mutation, she enjoys being able to communicate with someone in her favorite place to be. Seeing as she also partakes in a few of his mini shows, she’s grown quite comfortable around him, more so than other people. She rarely feels self-conscious around him and feels less compelled to hide her imperfections.
Trivia:
* Undine hates to chew food and prefers smoothies or food that doesn’t require much chewing. The only exception to this is fish, which she prefers to eat raw.
* Her tongue has various scars from biting it because she likes the taste of blood.
* Entering the circus, she cut the webs between her fingers so she could wear gloves.
* There are several scars hidden in her scales from where her legs were sewn together.

#121 Soel
Username: Lute
Character Name: Soel
Stage Name: Fang
Age: 16 years old.
Gender: Male
Experiment Number: #121
Faction (and Expertise): Gambit performer specializes as an animal trainer. He usually delivers an act along with a pair of tigers, but recently the “management” has him try to work with aquatic dangers like crocodiles and piranhas. It’s not known whether he enjoys getting punished or just has one hard head, but Soel makes it a point to resist transferring to a new act. He doesn’t have any aversion to the water creatures; it’s just that he’s better off on dry land.
Mutation: Soel’s bones were specially designed to have the flexible frame of a feline. Due to this he is quite lithe, seeing how his skeletal frame can absorb impact easily by reflexively bending by the joints, which is a significant advantage to one whose act revolves around performing stunts with wild animals. However, the mutation has also resulted to his body being a bit too slender (almost feminine, in fact, if it weren’t for the telltale muscles on his arm) but this certain “disadvantage” didn’t seem to have any effect pertaining to his physical prowess.
Dorm Number: #31
Appearance: In the midst of all the brilliant personalities in the circus, Soel’s dismal and gloomy aura shows like a blotch of ink on a white blanket. If it wasn’t bad enough that the tall, slender boy’s choice of apparel was limited to dull hoodies and faded jeans, he also seemed to be cursed with an incurable slouch and impossibly slow movements. During this “normal” mode of his, Soel looks very much like a modern day zombie (and people go as far as to call him that) what with his face overshadowed by his hood and his shoulders hunched forward threateningly. His appearance drastically changes during practice hours, though: dressed in simple, flexible apparel, Soel usually fixes his nape-long blonde hair back in order to be able to widen his field of vision. His calm blue-gray eyes, now finally stripped of the “protection” his hoods usually offer, are seen to have oddly formed narrow pupils like a cat’s. His nails are unusually long and sharp too, but he keeps them filed in order not to injure anyone accidentally.
Some of the members of the “story” group say that he looks like a girl sometimes, most especially if his hair is tied up in a ponytail.
Personality: Although he is one of the oldest performers in the circus and thus expected to meddle in the affairs of the younger children, Soel doesn’t rub his nose in other people’s business and prefers to be alone. This reclusive attitude, added to his popularity as someone who tempts—and defeats— death every show day, has led him to being labeled as “snobbish”, especially by the more juvenile members, but he does his best to ignore their criticisms although he is well aware of it. That or he simply doesn't care.
On the other hand, some people who have taken note of the solemn recluse say that he’s willing to work with people on whatever it is they want to do or even participate in a group discussion, and it doesn't take a lot of prodding too, at that. Sometimes he is elected as a leader in small group stunts, and he makes his opinions known with the use of a clipped, almost sleepy order or lets someone else decide while he reads a book on the corner. With this sort of attitude, many think that his successes with his stunts are brought on by immense divine luck, and they envy him for that. What they don’t know is that he is actually a capable leader, if not a terribly unmotivated one.
Unlike what is expected of his mature appearance, Soel is often distracted by “unusual”, not-your-everyday-happenings like, for example, fireworks. He also seems to have a penchant for fire, since he is most reluctant to leave the backstage when the fire gambits and/or dancers are the ones who perform. Pertaining to violence, he usually prefers to wait it out and will not involve himself in either side unless there is a very important reason to. He is also quite attached to his “partner” tigers, unlike to his new crocodile mates, and gets a bit offended whenever someone mistakes his job as a trainer to that of a tamer (although it is understandable).
To answer that question, Soel doesn’t wrestle with animals but instead performs stunts and tricks with them. Due to his innate connection to felines, however, the management sometimes puts him in charge of breaking the new circus animals. He dislikes this immensely since “breaking” the new ones often takes place on a stage with an audience watching.
Relationships:
* Luci: One of the extremely few people whom Soel doesn’t ignore too much. As he has tasked himself to “guarding” the frail members of his story group, he seems to have developed the same “creed” for Luci on first glance (although she probably doesn’t know about this). Anyway, he also likes how she doesn’t chatter away incessantly and expresses herself via gestures and waves — it’s a lot like how he communicates using his glares.
* Mono: At first Soel didn’t like having the bubbly kid popping in and out of his life, but “like a patch of moss” she slowly grew on him. The two seem to have a brother-sister relationship… and a lively one at that. Mono is one of the most delicate kids in the circus so Soel eventually started hovering around her without her notice. To her part she usually “nags” him about various things such as food and clothing; trivial matters that she can always talk to with someone else yet pointed towards him instead.
Trivia:
* Soel adores reading. He uses books not merely as something to pass the time with, but also as a “utopia” which he can retreat to after a grueling show. Because of this “hobby” of his, Soel’s become the de facto storyteller for the youngest children and any other audience willing to listen. Inside the dorm, his side of the room usually has lots of different books (focusing on the fantasy genre) piled around his bed.
* Although he is naturally apathetic when it comes to most situations, Soel usually shows his thoughts about something by using his expressions. He shows an immense amount of disapproval when someone annoys “his” group of kids or does something (extremely) fatal to the tigers or any other feline. He doesn’t give squat about most aquatic animals due to mutual dislike.
* Soel doesn’t say much about his preferences (sometimes he doesn’t say anything at all), but a lot of people have noted that he’s unusually happy when he gets to eat spicy food. The spicier, the better.

#199 Caleb
Username: heylookimbored
Character Name: Caleb
Stage Name: N/A
Age: 13
Gender: Male
Experiment Number: #199
Faction (and Expertise): Gambit
Expertise: Fire breathing and eating.
Caleb is familiar with the common fire breathing and eating skills. While he is trying to develop some of his own, he is also trying to master those common tricks. Caleb is trying to learn to juggle fire balls (balls lit with fire) and hopes to incorporate it into his performances.
Mutation: Caleb possesses very high body temperature. High heat tolerance is a ‘gift’ that comes along with the given mutation. Cold temperature particularly affects him. Contact with icy things could cause a piercing pain. Soaking in icy waters for a long time could be dangerous, but its one way or the other: either it is life threatening or that he will melt the source of cold before it could cause him further discomfort.
He’s used as a furnace during the winters. The heavy clothes he wears during the winter dulls the heat others receive upon contact. It was during the coldest days that he was the happiest, because he was most needed.
During the summer days, he is neglected. The other gifted children, uhm, mutants, refused to be near him. That was worse than the times they refuse (couldn’t) to touch his skin on account of his high body temperature and feel tense in his presence. The reason why the fellow mutants shun him wasn’t personal, but Caleb couldn’t help but always take it personally.
Dorm Number: #33
Appearance: Caleb has sun-kissed brown hair. The two sides comes down to his cheek while it is short in the back. His hair has gotten slightly messier after his arrival. His skin is slightly tanned. Caleb has warm bright eyes of amber that makes him look quite doll-like. He has a thin build, and a height of 5' 1. Caleb wears plain clothes for he does not care much about what he look. Shirts with slightly faded colors and shorts that look a little old. In the winters, he could be seen in a thick cloak of dull green and a dirtied white scarf.
Personality: Caleb is kind. He poses more sympathy for others than selfishness. He's the type that would go out of his way to help someone. Caleb is prone to being used by others. The boy is horrible when it comes to refusing other's requests. Caleb is also low in self esteem, and often thinks that he would cause more trouble than help. Therefore, as a mean of protecting himself, also that he thinks he wouldn't be much help, he never ask to help others. Rather, he only helps when it was asked of him.
Caleb is diligent when it comes to others and especially attentive to things and events around people he cared about. He would notice when someone is deceiving, using, or planning to a person he cared, However, having low self esteem, he often would diminish and misinterpret the signs he saw as mere gut feelings. Caleb would then wait until he is absolutely sure to inform the other... only after thinking up the most painless way to do so. It is often too late after the tedious process, and Caleb would proceed to blame it on himself.
Though he is diligent when it comes to matters relating other people, he is dull about himself. Every smile delights him and every praise sounds just as euphonious. Caleb desires warmth from others. He is hardworking. Knowing that he wasn't especially good in the tricks, he practices for long hours everyday. Performing days are not an exception.
Background: Caleb is the scientist's son, or so he has known. It was uncertain whether the mutation was successful or not when Caleb was born. It was as if he was on a constant high fever, but with no other internal abnormalities. The so called fever never caused any harm. While the scientist kept Caleb by his side for easy observation, he made some income off the child as well. The scientists rent Caleb to rich nobles for nights, sometime even weeks, for service. Caleb is obedient and would do all the things the 'clients' asked. Then every time he returns, the scientist would ruffle his hair, and call him a good child, tell him that he is proud of his son. Of course, many has asked to buy him for his/her own, but the offers are all declined by the scientist. It has all seemed reasonable to Caleb: why in the world would a parent sell his son?
It was until Caleb's 11th year of life, that his body temperature has begun to rise. Soon it has reached an extent that it was intolerable for the clients, and work is impossible. And the following year, the scientist found a way to make a last stash of income from the little mutant...
Relationships:
* Caleb is friends with Toby, head of the Gambits. Toby isn’t really affected by Caleb’s body temperature.
Trivia:
* Caleb occasionally eats ice cream as a futile attempt to lower his body temperature. The reason for eating ice cream is never that he enjoys the taste or the coldness. The cold treat sometimes makes his body ache. Caleb thinks of it as a way to make up to the people who had to shun him.

#267 Aiden
Username: FoxofDissonance
Character Name: Aiden
Stage Name: N/A.
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Experiment Number: #267
Faction (and Expertise): Aiden is a part of the Gambits. He excels in animal taming. His usual performance features him engaging in a scuffle with larger animals such as tigers or wolves. The boy then proceeds to use his enhanced reflexes in order to survive and tame the said beasts.
Mutation: Wolf DNA was fused with Aiden’s own. As a result his senses were enhanced and made more sensitive. His hearing and smell now resembles that of a canine, and so does his strength and speed. His mutation turns him into the ideal wolf tamer, for one must know their enemy before they can come out victorious, yes? Aiden can move like a wolf and fight like a wolf when on stage. As for the side effect, at times Aiden gets splitting headaches due to conflicts within his mind. His human DNA and wolf DNA are sort of locked in a fight, where each wants to be dominant. The scientist made it however, so none would win. In order to balance each other out they clash from time to time and when that happens Aiden will get a splitting headache that sends him howling in pain and at times when this happens he’ll be running on all fours like a wild animal and wreaking havoc .
Dorm Number: #33
Personality: Aiden is playful, hyper, loyal and defensive - all qualities that describe a dog. When not in the ring he can be as harmless as a puppy. Aiden is social and likes to ramble on and on even when no one is listening. He’s an upbeat chatterbox who is almost, always happy. The animal tamer is an idealistic lad, and despite their situations he likes looking at the bright side. Aiden can be a bit on the blunt side, although he doesn't do it to offend. He just does it because he rarely thinks things through. The idiot is brash and impulsive, the two being traits the probably keep him alive during his fights with the deadly animals. Despite his idiotic and childish demeanor he has quick wits and is quite the observer. Aiden notices little things, like an opponent’s stance and when and where to hit.
Usually he is calm and friendly, but when teased by people he hardly knows he will lash out and lose his temper. Aiden will always look out for the people he considers his friends. He really is as loyal as a guard dog. Aiden dislikes fighting the beasts in the ring, but he does love the attention he gets when on stage. A part of him is really disappointed in himself because he hates hurting the creatures, but the attention makes him feel alive and the adrenaline rush is something he adores. The feel of a thrill is something Aiden can never get enough of. He just loves it when he can feel his heart hammering in his chest, the fear crawling all over and the split second decisions that could save or end is life.
The young animal tamer can be summed up by comparing him to a friendly puppy and a persistent hunter. He’s a cheery kid that can be a tad too innocent at times, but when someone messes with his friends, he’ll become a blood thirsty beast who will definitely try to even the score.
Background: Ever since he could remember Aiden was part of the Good smile orphanage. He made friends there and caused a lot of trouble with his always on the go attitude. He never knew his parents or knew why he was left at the orphanage. It was alright there, he had friends that came and went. The nuns were strict and mean, but it was tolerable. One day, the head nun died and was replaced by a total witch. That was when Aiden and a few other kids suffered a lot, most of the time they would bawl and cry due to constantly being scolded and left unfed. One day a scientist came looking for children to adopt. Aiden was picked due to his spunk, even as a child Aiden would constantly tackle obstacles and scamper up tables and chairs. The scientist saw him as a risk-taker in the making and decided to adopt him. The young four year old however, did not get the loving home he should have. Instead of being treated like a son he was grouped together with other children and turned into a test subject. That was when wolf DNA was fused with his own. That was also when Aiden the animal tamer came to be.
Trivia:
* Aiden, a name placed upon him by a few of the nuns at the orphanage. They called him Aiden due to his spunk and hyper activity. It stuck and that’s what the boy decided to go by.
* Aiden loves meat; the scent of fresh meat tends to make him drool. He can also eat like a bottomless pit.
* When the headaches come he will not be himself and will tend to lash out and be hostile. This is due to the wolf DNA trying to take control and get rid of the human DNA.
* The young animal tamer is claustrophobic.

#282 Ivan
Username: Ryuya
Character Name: Ivan Azarov
Stage Name: N/A
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Experiment Number: #282
Faction (and Expertise): Ivan is a member of the Gambits, specializing in sea creatures. Due to his mutation, Ivan has the ability to communicate with animals and he asks them to perform various tricks. However, he isn’t a fully fledged performer and has no show of his own. He works in the freak show as “The Boy Who Can Speak To Animals.” Sometimes, things don’t go according to plan since animals have minds of their own which is why he has yet to have his own show. Ivan feels as though animals have their own rights and do not wish to force them to prance around for human amusement; this is partly the reason why he remains a trainee.
Mutation: Sonar; Ivan has the ability to communicate his thoughts to sea creatures through a high pitched tone, a tone much too high for the human ear to hear. Similar to how a submarine uses sonar to guide their way through the water, Ivan’s tone works best underwater. Above the ground, the tone becomes garbled and misunderstood by creatures that may hear high tones, such as wolves. After being brought to the lab, the scientists aimed to make a human being that could hear and understand animals as well as speak back to them. They operated on his vocal cords to allow him to speak in a higher tone and tested it with various creatures, finding that sea creatures are the best at understanding the boy’s commands. However, his vocal cords were shifted too far up and he could no longer speak in a lower register. His voice became too high to listen to comfortably so he has to resort to sign language to communicate with humans. The scientists were also going to alter parts of his brain so that he may comprehend animal chatter but before they could, the organization was shut down.
Dorm Number: #31
Appearance: Ivan Azarov stands at a tall 5’10” or 178 cm. Though he is tall, he isn’t much wider, resembling a pole. He has chin-length platinum blond hair that is cut straight at an angle so that his hair is slightly longer near his chin than at the nape of his neck. He doesn’t quite have bangs, just long locks of hair tucked into his ears to reveal ice blue eyes, a prominent nose and a small frown. His choice of clothing would be the simplest things he could find: a t-shirt, long pants, simple sneakers, and a zip-up jacket. His clothes for his act though were picked out by those higher up than he is and consists of a thin pea coat, black pants with boots, several belts that serve no purpose and a black cloak. Ivan prefers to be in water if he could help it and when he is, he usually doesn’t wear a shirt and only dons a pair of pants.
Personality: Prior to being in the lab, Ivan was just a normal boy who laughed at the most random things and pretended that nothing was wrong when something actually was. Now, he is pretty much the same guy with a few differences. He is friendly to people his age or younger except for those people who harm animals. He tended not to think too well of his fellow animal tamers for wrestling with animals and doesn’t wish to associate with them. He adores animals and treats them as well as he treats humans. He thinks of his act not as an act but as a talk between friends and a request of a friend to another. Since he can speak to them, he doesn’t like eating meat or fish and opts to eat only vegetables which is why he grew up lanky.
He also hated the scientists. Whatever he was told to do, he did—with a few tweaks of his own. If they asked him to jump, he would but only slightly so that his feet barely left the ground. He knew that such behaviors won’t go unpunished but this was his way of rebelling against them. Of course, since the punishments could be extremely severe, he rations out his rebellion throughout the year so that he isn’t punished daily.
Instead of being in the spotlight, he prefers to be in the sidelines and away from prying eyes. Though he can talk, he hates his voice now so he uses sign language more often than not. He also likes the fact that not everyone knows sign language so he has some sort of privacy even when gesturing in front of everyone. Though he went to school prior to the lab, he doesn’t know much about the rules of English or have an extensive vocabulary and he isn’t ashamed of it. He frequently asks a few people he knows and trusts what a word means or why it is used in a phrase or sentence.
Background: Ivan was born to a housewife and a carpenter and lived in a modest house in a modest neighborhood. Everything about the Azarovs seemed normal: the father went to work in the morning and came home in the afternoon; the mother stayed home to take care of the house and their child; the kid went to school. However, not everything is as it seems. Ivan’s father was cheating on his wife with his customers and his mother knew. She stored all the pent up anger, hurt and betrayal in her until it boiled over, resulting in the aggressive beating of her then seven year old boy. Immediately afterwards, she cried, hugged him close and promised to never do it again. And he believed her—that is, until she did it again. The beatings were more frequent and severe as he aged and he started missing school because he became incapacitated from the injuries. This caused him to lose any friends he had because they were turned away at the door by his mother when they came to visit for fear of them discovering what she did.
When he turned ten, he decided to run away from home. Within hours he was found and as punishment, he was beaten so hard that his two left ribs cracked, a giant bruise formed on his stomach and various other bruises popped up. It was then he knew that if he was to stay here, he would eventually die at his mother’s hands.
A few months later, he tried again. This time, he ran as far as his legs could take him, carrying with him only a backpack filled with a bottle of water, a loaf of bread, and a pocket watch his grandfather mailed him for his seventh birthday all the way from Russia. He hid from the world inside a circular tube that is on a children’s playground for the night and in the morning, he set out on foot. He ended up out of the city and made camp underneath a bridge where he lived for the next few months. He made due with whatever was available, fishing up food from the nearby stream. He stole clothes from vendors and even a couple of children’s books for entertainment. Though he can’t read all of the words, he enjoyed looking at the pictures.
A couple months after his eleventh birthday, his whole life changed. He went to sleep one night and in the morning, he woke up to unfamiliar territory with strange men in white coats looming over him. His first instinct was the fight back but he soon found that he was bounded to the table underneath him. He tried to scream but his jaw was also bound shut with a surgical gas mask over it. A man calmly explained to him that he was about to take part in what would make the world great, what would make humans perfect, but everything he said faded into the background as the gas seeped into the mask and his system. This was how he started life at the lab and a few years later, at the circus.
Relationships:
* Undine: She was someone who came to the lab around the same time he did and thus, he saw her around once in a while. Since they were the same age, they spoke a few times but it wasn’t until the circus was established that they became close. Since he works with water and she spends time in water, they speak quite a lot. And also, since Undine is part fish, Ivan can speak to her using his sonar which is the most preferred way of communication for him.
* Anemone: Anemone was one of the few people around that could sign so he enjoys speaking to her since he doesn’t have to speak in his high-pitched voice. She is also smart and is one of the few people Ivan asks about words and other things.
Trivia:
* His most treasured item and the only thing he has left of his life outside of the lab and circus is the pocket watch he received as a child.
* Being friends with Anemone made him aware that plants are living creatures too and is sometimes guilty when he eats vegetables.
* He is a sound sleeper and takes quite a lot to wake him up. He tends to sleep early and wake early too.
* He hates the nickname Ivey.

#295 Skix
Username: Naiko
Character Name: Skix
Stage Name: N/A
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Experiment Number: #295
Faction (and Expertise): Gambit; Animal Tamer and Freak Segment.
Mutation: Snake Hybrid/Venom Immunity; Skix’s DNA was spliced with that of a snakes prior to birth with the intent to create a child with a high tolerance, if not complete immunity, for the deadly venom of snakes. Along with the intended immunity to venom, the snake DNA was prevalent throughout the boy’s development. Traits of a snake just about consume every fiber of him aside from the bone density of normal humans and the frame of a human (aka. He has arms and legs like a human although they are moderately scaled). The only exception to his human frame is his jaw which has the bone structure of a snakes. He has a slightly faster regeneration rate as well but it’s by no means exceptional. He is also venomous though it’s used sparingly, the scientists have set conditions to keep his deadly aspect in check.
Dorm Number: #33
Appearance: His skin is scaled spaciously with skin that is slightly more elastic than the normal human’s. Muscles are slightly over developed causing bones in his arms to break at times if he isn’t careful. Bones at other times can be disjointed and then popped back into place with minimal pain, such as the boy’s jaw. While his mouth cannot open quite as much as a snake’s would, this is primarily what still makes him human. While he can sustain bites from just about every deadly snake the scientists have tested on him he also has his own extremely potent venom that comes from a set of fangs tucked away behind his teeth. His teeth have some of the traits of snake teeth as they are pointed and bent slightly inward like hooks, but they are still flatter and more bulky like a humans. There is also a second row of these pointed teeth, although smaller and more needle like behind the first, they guard his fangs.
His scales are primarily shades of brown, black, and gray while the scales on his palms and forearms are a sandy orange shade. He has small horned structures near his wrists and on his forehead above his eyebrows. A mop of slate hair conceals the small soft tissue horns on his forehead but not his eyes. They are a slitted and golden in color. He’s not allowed to wear baggy shirts/sweaters by the scientists. They think his scales are fascinating and prefer to know if he becomes tense, something more easily seen when the skin on his arms tightens bringing the loose scales more closely together. He is allowed to wear a sweatshirt during the colder months along with pants to stay warm but aside from that his wardrobe is mainly t-shirts and shorts or cargo pants. Around his left wrist is also a band that looks a lot like a bracelet. He cannot remove it and it gives out electric shocks if a scientist feels threatened by him.
Personality: Skix isn’t the most friendly of people given that he has a hard time reaching out. He has a hard time trusting people and people’s tendency to fear him leaves him relatively isolated. Despite this isolation when someone does talk to him he is calm and kind usually. Responses are usually blunt and direct. A lot of his actions can only be described as instinctive so at times like any snake under pressure he will lash out with anger. This side he tries to keep in check for the sake of others.
He doesn’t like his outbursts of aggression or violence and would rather people not completely avoid him. The snake part of him may enjoy the solitude but the human part of him reminds him that on some level he likes to be around others. Physical contact for him is difficult because it tends to trigger his aggressive side and reflexes. For this reason few people can safely hug him or tap him on the shoulder without some kind of response.
Background: Experiments on Skix were conducted when he was still in development. As he grew up his mother was probably alive for the first half a year before he started to teeth and accidentally bit her. At a young stage in life his venom wasn’t as potent and she died a few days later. Scientists were unable to find an anti-venom that worked on her though they did discover that an anti-venom could be created from component’s of Skix’s body.
For about the first three years of his life Skix was poked and prodded at with needles and the scientists used the miracle anti-venom to pay off expenses. As they got into year four and five they discovered the child was reacting more aggressively towards the needles and scientists. One scientist was bit that year and died and it was nearly decided that the experiment was a failure and too dangerous. However the investment, although mostly paid off, could not be so easily dropped. The scientists strayed away from producing the anti-venom and selling it to prevent further upsets from the boy. In turn he seemed to behave in their little shows and performances. He would handle highly venomous snakes and even a few large constrictors after wrestling with them during training. He has killed a few of the larger constrictors with his venom when he was threatened with constriction. There are a few that seem to respect him on some level and those are mostly the ones he handles in the bigger acts. His communication with the snakes is through mutual actions, he cannot speak to them but he does give warning hisses on occasion.
As of now the scientists doubt that he will ever try to escape primarily because he’s one of the few investments they’re allowed to kill if tranquilizers or shocks don’t work. Skix does not particularly care about escape. He shows little interest in the world above, though he is aware it exists, and does not feel that he could live among those who view the performances and scoff at his appearance. For both these reasons the scientists don’t particularly trust the boy and he doesn’t trust them. As long as he does what they say and he receives food and a home he deems acceptable there seems to be no malice. He does however loathe physical contact from the scientists and lets them perform their routine checks on his health. Needles and blood tests, however, are scarce among the checks.
Relationships: N/A.
Trivia:
* Skix has a phobia of needles.
* He prides himself in the fact he can swallow a hamburger whole by unhinging his jaw, of course this is something he will never disclose to others. He just does it at lunch sometimes and it tends to creep people out.
* Bites from snakes don’t hurt or scare him though he himself tends to scare people away either in appearance or actions. Seldom is this intentional.

#737 Sylvie
Username: Kayya
Character Name: Sylvie
Stage Name: N/A
Age: 12
Gender: Female
Experiment Number: #737
Faction (and Expertise): Gambit; training in a variety of different areas: sword-swallowing, fire-eating, animal-taming... her expertise is currently not yet defined.
Mutation: Thanks to some careful tweaking in her brain by the scientists, Sylvie isn't capable of ever experiencing what 'fear' is; her memories of the things which triggered it before the experiment took place are looked back upon with mild curiosity, but not relived. From spiders to the worst horror stories, from humiliation to failure; nothing fazes her, and she's able to do the most daring acts without her heart rate speeding up in the slightest. The most she feels which resembles fear is a dull sort of concern, surprise, disgust, or hatred. Literally, she's fearless. However, in addition her connection to other emotions are fairly skewered, permanently numbed by the scientist's prior experimentation before hitting jackpot. But though Sylvie lacks empathy towards people at times and can often seem somewhat robotic, she always tries to mean well.
Dorm Number: #40
Appearance: Sylvie is a pale little thing, with stick-like limbs and soft, disheveled locks permanently dyed a cotton-candy pink reaching her mid-back. Her bird's-nest hair is usually left untamed, and is tied into two presentable plaits for performances. With clear skin save for the light freckles sprinkled over a button nose, vibrant blue-green eyes, and an overall charming appearance; Sylvie's easy on the eyes and her wide, cheerful grin is one which could make the shyest of people feel at ease. She walks with a fairy-like bounce and a skip to her steps and with her ever-happy demeanor, you'd think that pixie dust would be trailing after her every move.
What often takes people aback is the fact that she is forever sporting bruises and cuts; most of them fade away, but are constantly replaced. Permanent souvenirs include a conspicuous scar at her chin as well as a few less noticeable ones on the rest of her body. Sylvie is repeatedly rushing into harm's way, and what's more is that she bruises easily: you'll find that these two traits make Sylvie is a hopeless case despite the fact that she's anything but a klutz. It is always a trial to prepare Sylvie for a performance and conceal every single mark whether it be with clothing or make-up.
Personality: With the absence of fear and her lack of feeling intense emotion, she's far from shy or anxious when it comes to interacting with people - she is intrigued by other people, and is quite genial. Sylvie's just another strange little misfit in the community of oddballs. Sylvie's concern for her wellbeing is poor to the point of suicidal, she's confident to the point of narcissistic, she's friendly to the point of scaring people off, and she has an innocence which can be infuriatingly silly. Carefree and blithe, Sylvie's life underground is spent contently wandering around and doing her own thing in a quiet, unassuming way. She trusts her woman's intuition a little too blindly and is unrealistically spontaneous, frequently jumping into things impulsively and irrationally.
Sylvie is that type of person who muses about the tiniest things and asks the strangest questions. She's adventurous, persevering, and anything but lazy. Her extreme patience can also be incredibly annoying, thanks to the fact that nothing pushes her buttons. You'd think that her curious and inquisitive nature would act as a problem for the scientists; however, Sylvie is also immensely trusting if not ridiculously foolish and she believes every word she hears, often looking to others for guidance. You'd also think that because of her mutation, she'd be an insolent ball of trouble to the scientists; on the contrary, she is condescendingly treated like a little pet, for the fact that she is extremely obedient as well as naive. Sylvie is also very uninhibited, and makes quite a pleasant and loyal (though a tad clingy) companion.
Background: Sylvie was four years old when she was found curled up in a ball on the city streets (which is ironic, considering her name means "from the forest.") Not long after she was taken in by the scientists, she was diagnosed to be an extreme PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) victim, after displaying severe symptoms. She often showed signs of agitation, stress, and hysteria; flinching at the smallest touch and crying when a voice was even slightly raised. She was simply frightened of everything and everyone. The success of transforming Sylvie to become the exact opposite of her former self is looked back upon with pride by the scientists.
Trivia:
* Prior to being placed, she secretly wished to be an Aerial, but the scientists coined her mutation as a natural Gambit act.
* Sylvie simply cannot lie. At all. Expect the clichés when dealing with her: frequent blinking, avoidance of eye contact; you name it.
* She always seems as if she's just popped out of nowhere. She has a stealthy talent for sneaking around, and no one usually notices her.
* Sylvie's incredibly observant and has an impressively keen memory.
