Character Name: Tobias “Toby” Foster
Stage Name: The Demon
Age: Roughly 17
Toby's birthday is in February, he can’t remember the exact day but he celebrates his birthday on Christmas. As he believes that he’s had seventeen Christmases, he therefore considers himself seventeen.
Gender: Male
Experiment Number: #111
Faction (and Expertise): Toby is surprisingly the Head of the Gambits.Toby’s act involves putting him through what most people would consider horrible tortures only a criminal deserves. Being cut, stabbed, whipped... anything that would hurt a normal human being. Toby is put through and made to do anything to get a gasp from the audience; he seems to be able to endure any pain and never seems to bleed from his outrageous injuries.
Mutation: Toby was experimented on to become a type of super soldier: a literal walking tank. The scientists worked on him from the age of five until puberty, doing anything possible to make him “invincible”. The final result was: his thick skin. It’s near impossible to make him bleed as few injuries ever reach his veins and arteries. As for feeling pain, the mutations to his skin damaged his nerves beyond repair. Thus, making all sensations from pleasure to pain completely numb or not registering at all. If you were to tap the boy on his shoulder, he would never know. He has two other side effects of his mutation: the color of his skin has become grey due to a few experiments involving trying to make him like an elephant .They were not completely successful, which is why his skin doesn’t wrinkle and fold like an elephant's, but the coloration has stayed with him ever since. As for his eyes, no one quite sure understands why his eyes have taken on the red coloring.
Dorm Number: #33
Appearance: Being a boy who stands at 5’11/ 180 cm, Toby is a gentle giant. Strong and sturdy, he can win easily in a fight of brawn; however, he isn’t fast at all. Due to everything that’s been done to him, he has a slow reaction time. Besides his height, there are two other very distinct things that everyone notices about Tobias. First, of course is his near sickly skin color - a near lifeless grey. The second thing everyone notices are his piercing red eyes that more fit a demon than sweet Toby. To finish everything off he has a head of thick, ink black shaggy hair that always gets in his eyes. He doesn’t get much choice in clothing but what he wears is usually dark in color (black, brown, grey etc) and surprisingly baggy on him - most likely second-hand items from the scientists.
Personality: Somehow, despite everything that has happened in his short life, Toby is a cheerful and sweet person. He is a gentle giant or even could be called a puppy, though only one person has ever compared him to a dog and continued to do so frequently. The boy has a heart of gold. He easily trusts anyone who isn’t a scientist and treats everyone else like a dear friend. He’ll listen eagerly to your problems, never judging you in the least, and will only giving advice when wanted or desperately needed - even though he often talks about how he isn’t good at solving problems. He is a soft spoken lad, due to his years with Emily and her super hearing he has learned to speak at basically a whisper and the habit has stayed with him ever since. Toby is overly modest, claiming to not be very bright and often putting himself down with a smile. He doesn’t see it as putting himself down, but simply telling the truth. All in all, Toby is a simple person on the outside.
On the inside he’s far more complicated, he possesses a deep seeded hatred for the scientists and every second of the day he is yearning to run away from all of this. Toby's hatred for the scientists isn't displayed often, most people wouldn’t realize how much he hates them… how much he’d love to kill them. Toby is nearly always waging a war within himself. He wants to escape the hell the “monsters” have forced him and his friends into, but at the same time he knows that this is a sanctuary for his friends and that no matter how much he tries he will never be able to make them come with him. He’s stuck, unable to do anything. Go deeper and you’ll find a rather depressed and lonely person that hides all of his troubles by simply not talking about them. Wearing a smile and being more concerned about everyone else, eager to listen to others problems but never will speak a word about his own. Few people will ever notice, but he avoids talking about himself entirely. No one knows him a hundred percent.
Background: Tobias, as he was called then, was born to a single mother along with his little sister, Amy. At the age of five, his mother died due to unknown reasons. The location of his father was just another mystery to Tobias. The man had never been in the picture and had never been spoken of. Tobias, along with his sister Amy, were adopted by the scientists soon after their mother passed away. The experiments started straight away and the two siblings shared pain began, the two clung to each other throughout the torturing. No matter what happened, they were at least glad to have each other to hold and reassure during the experiments.
At the age of seven, Toby was considered a “success”. The scientists were happy but not completely satisfied with him. The boy though didn’t care for any praise he obtained, he had been robbed of the only thing that had kept him alive that whole time - Amy. She had been a failure, dying a slow death at the hands of whatever those “monsters”, as Toby calls them, had done to her. No funeral had happened; her body was thrown away like garbage as that’s all she was to them. After Amy’s death, Tobias, as he had always been called by her, decided to adopt the nickname all the other children called him, Toby. After this, the kid became silent, not talking to anyone and keeping to himself. His odd silence attracted an equally odd girl, a girl who called herself Emily Foster.
She had been mutated to have super hearing. It was so sensitive that she could in fact hear an insect’s breath almost perfectly. Her sensitive hearing bothered her day in and day out: the other experiments were far too loud for her and so she came to the one child who never said anything. After introducing herself she poured her heart out to him. The two children became friends fast; Toby listened to her chatter on and slowly began to speak to her in the quietest tone he could muster. Emily soon introduced Toby to her childhood friend, Lidiya. The two girls had been born and raised in the lab, Toby befriended the soon-to-be Swan Princess but his friendship with her was never as close as it was with Emily. The two children were inseparable and at a young age Toby decided to take on the girl’s made-up last name of Foster, he could never remember his own and with how close the two were it seemed fitting. It isn’t too surprising that when they were behind closed doors, where the scientists could not see them, the two became as close as possible... even declaring themselves lovers. Throughout their years with the scientists, Toby continued to fantasize about escaping - taking everyone he loved with him. He couldn’t remember the outside world as clearly as he’d like, but he knew there was much more to life than what they were leaded to believe. Emily however argued long and hard, no matter how much he tried she would say he was being crazy. It put a dent in their relationship but they persisted on. The scientists moved all of the children and one day declared they would start a circus, what a turn of events. All the children trained for a whole six months, everything was going great… until the last week of training. For reasons unknown, the scientists took Emily away behind the doors of the scientists' no-access area. She was never seen again.
Relationships:
* Amy & Emily Foster - Even though neither walks among the living anymore these two girls are the most important people to have ever been in Toby’s life and nothing will ever make him forget them.
* Lidiya – Someone that he considers a friend despite the many strains on their relationship.
* Caleb – Another member of the Gambits, he is one of the few people who can deal with Caleb’s mutation and naturally the two became friends.
Trivia:
* Toby is unable to read even with the teaching attempts from the scientists. Eventually, they gave up. It appears he has a severe form of dyslexia.
* Surprisingly, Toby is Christian and is quite religious, though he has never read the Bible himself. Everything he knows is from what he remembers being taught as a child, which means most of it is probably not quite right. He prays every night before bed.
* He loves food, especially cookies and biscuits. His favorite fruit are apples.
* He also loves music, anything cheerful or that he can dance to. He may never admit it but the boy loves to dance.
* His lucky number is three.
